KUCHING: A kitchen helper was fined RM2,500 in default five months’ imprisonment by the Magistrate’s Court here on Wednesday (Feb 16) for recording his girlfriend, 19, while she was taking a shower.
The accused, Simon Ragon, 31, from Kampung Ma’ang, Serian pleaded guilty to the charge that was read by an interpreter before magistrate Zaiton Anuar.
The accused was charged with committing the offence, punishable under Section 509 of the Penal Code for tarnishing the girlfriend’s dignity by recording her through a window in a workers hostel in Jalan Tun Jugah here at 12.51pm on Feb 12.
If convicted, he could be jailed for up to five years or fined or both.
The girl’s friend, who witnessed the incident, also recorded the accused in the act as evidence, and the victim and her friend then informed their employer, who caught the accused and they later lodged a police report.
