KUCHING: The district’s Commercial Crime Investigation Division (CCID) has recorded fewer Macau scam cases from January to September this year compared to last year.

Kuching OCPD ACP Ahsmon Bajah said CCID opened a total of 402 investigation papers involving various commercial crimes this year.

“From the figure, a total of 69 cases are Macau scams involving losses amounting to RM2.3mil.

“Comparing the statistics of Macau scams recorded last year and this year, it shows a decline of nine cases – from 78 in 2021 to 69 in 2022.

“This (decline) is the result of the service blueprint launched earlier this year where the target is to record zero cases involving Macau scams,” he said during the Kuching District Police Headquarters (IPD) monthly assembly on Thursday (Oct 20).

ACP Ahsmon assured that CCID would carry out more efforts in future to achieve the target and organise face-to-face or virtual seminars for the public to create awareness on scams.

During the assembly, he also shared the overall crime index figures, which had decreased from 813 cases in 2021 to 242 this year.

“For narcotic crimes, a total of 1,252 cases involving 1,503 arrests were recorded last year.

“This year, the figure has increased, recording a total of 1,556 cases involving 1,759 arrests,” he said, adding that Kuching was the district with the highest number of arrests throughout the state.

ACP Ahsmon pointed out that last year’s total drug seizure value was RM4.8mil while this year’s was RM550,201.90.
