Kuching to host international recovery symposium in Sept

KUCHING: Sarawak will host the world’s first International Recovery Symposium (IRS) 2023 from Sept 18 to 21 here to discuss matters relating to addiction and mental health.

The event will be hosted jointly by the Ministry of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Organisation for Addiction Prevention, Treatment and Rehabilitation (OAPTAR) and International Society of Substance Use Professionals (ISSUP) Malaysia Chapter.

The National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) and Business Event Sarawak (BES) are also involved.

OAPTAR and ISSUP Malaysia president Cindy Bidding said the event will be held to enhance professional development of healthcare practitioners in the specialty of addiction and mental health treatment.

“The symposium will feature keynote speeches from world-renowned experts as well as panel discussions, seminars and workshops on topics related to addiction and mental health,” said Cindy.

She said this after the breaking-of-fast event with OAPTAR and ISSUP at Serapi Hotel here lsst night.

She said participants will have the opportunity to learn about the latest trends and practices in prevention, treatment and recovery interventions and services.

“They can also network with peers and colleagues from around the world and explore new treatments, methodologies and technologies.

“The symposium is also an opportunity to exchange knowledge and connect with industry leaders and experts,” she said.

It is open to anyone involved in the addiction and mental health treatment industry, including clinicians, researchers, educators, policy makers and advocates.
