SIBU: GPS candidate for Lanang, Wong Ching Yong, wants to see to the completion of a flood mitigation project he has been fighting for here.

He said for the Lanang parliamentary constituency a total of RM120 million is needed for the proposed Phase 4 Flood Mitigation Project.

“The proposed project covers the Bukit Assek and Dudong State constituencies. Actually, this project was already on the government’s list with a fund allocation of RM90 mil before 2018.

“However, after Barisan Nasional (BN) lost in the 14th General Election (GE14), the allocation was channelled to other constituencies.

“I fought for it again through the help of SUPP President Datuk Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian,” he said at a press conference today (Nov 12).

The SUPP Dudong branch chief said that in 2020 Dr Sim approved an allocation of RM120 million.

“This project will benefit residents in Jalan Tekam, Jalan Amoi, Jalan Lanang, Jalan Aman, Jalan Khoo Peng Loong, Jalan Tiong Hua, Jalan Lai Chee, Jalan Punai, Jalan Sentosa, Kampung Usahajaya Baharu, Jalan Bukit Lima and surrounding areas.

“The cost includes the cost of building two main flood mitigation pumps, road elevation projects and so on,” he said.
He also said that the project is currently in the design stage to identify appropriate solutions to overcome the flooding problem in the area.

“We do not want the funds that have already been allocated for the project to disappear again after this. I have been saying that those elected must do a follow up on everything that has been planned,” he said.
