Miri: The firemen are currently carrying out total flooding tactics at the affected areas of the peat fire in Kuala Baram in order to prevent the fire from spreading further.

As at 1 pm yesterday, 21 hectares of land in Kuala Baram was devoured by the peat fire.

According to a spokesperson from Miri Fire and Rescue Department, the peat fire broke out between Permyjaya and Woodman Kuala Baram Estate, approximately three kilometres from Desa Indah Permyjaya residential area.

Firemen are stationed at the scene battling the blaze to contain and extinguish it. They were assisted by voluntary firefighting teams from Naim Group of Companies’ (Naim) and Woodman to ensure the safety of the nearby residents and to prevent the fire from spreading further.

Total flooding approach involved saturating the area with water to extinguish any remaining embers and prevent the fire from reigniting.

By implementing total flooding, the firemen were able to effectively contain the fire and minimising the risk of spreading to nearby areas.
