SONG: The Harvest Team (GTR) Layar surprised everyone by winning the Balleh-Kapit Raft Safari, beating 22 other challengers.
The team led by Betong District Officer Alfred Geling Ason and team adviser Christina Peter came out tops with the fastest time of four hours 23 minutes and nine seconds.
Alfred said his team was not considered a strong competitor, adding the result was therefore unexpected.
“Imagine attending a large rafting programme for the first time, with no prior training or knowledge of rafting or racing.
“Luckily, the fighting spirit of our team, GTR Layar, was incredibly strong. Perhaps this is due to feeling challenged by others who underestimated us.
“We won, with Nabau Beratung Ulu Takan in second place and the Kapit District Council in third,” he said.
