MIRI: The three remaining phases of the Sarawak-Sabah Link Road (SSLR) will be completed within five years of obtaining the required allocation, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof revealed.

The first phase of the project is currently ongoing, said the Senior Works Minister.

“We have commenced work on the first phase of the project stretching from Lawas to Long Lopeng.

“The three remaining phases are expected to be completed in five years once the funding is received,” he told a press conference at a hotel here yesterday.

Having arrived in Miri after a three-day journey across the full stretch of the Pan Borneo Highway as part of the nationwide FTRoadpedia Tour, Fadillah also took note of the issue of congestion in some areas around this city.

He said Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin had pointed out a few places of interest in need of upgrading to ease traffic flow.

“Once the Pan Borneo Highway is completed, there are still a number of traffic light junctions (in this city) that have become common places of traffic jams,” he noted.

He said his ministry will meet with the Sarawak Road Transport Department (RTD Sarawak) to look into the matter.

“We will look into the situation on the ground and find ways to help mitigate this issue.

“We will also address Datuk Seri Lee’s request to procure the appropriate funding to upgrade the facilities and utilise the smart traffic light system,” he explained.
