MIRI: In a heartfelt gesture of compassion, the Lions Club of Batu Niah showed its support for children battling cancer by donating essential items worth RM1,000 to the Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS) Miri.

The donation, comprising 40 sets of necessities, including mineral water, towels, toothbrushes, and other hygiene products, was handed over by club president Andy Jong to Jocelyn Hee Mei Fong, head of the Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS) Miri Liaison office, yesterday (Mar 24).

“This donation is part of our ongoing efforts to support children in need and provide them with the necessary resources during their challenging journey,” she said.

Jong stressed the significance of providing comfort and relief to these courageous children amidst their battle with cancer.

“We believe that every child deserves access to essential items that can make a positive impact on their well-being, especially during difficult times.

“It is our hope that this donation will bring comfort and relief to these brave children as they continue their fight against cancer. We remain committed to making a difference in the lives of those in our community who need it most,” she said.

Expressing hope that the donation would alleviate some of the burdens faced by the cancer-afflicted children, Jong highlighted the practicality of providing basic necessities while they await medical consultations at Miri Hospital.

“Many of these children travel from different parts of the division seeking specialised treatment at Miri Hospital.

“It’s important for them to have their necessities readily available. Supplying them with water, towels, and toothbrushes can significantly enhance their comfort during this trying period,” she added.
