SIBU: Narcotics police have arrested a local man for alleged possession of Methamphetamine worth over RM30,000 on Tuesday.

Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the arrest was made around 5 pm when the 30-year-old suspect was found in a car at Jalan Oya.

“Thorough inspections led to the finding of an airtight plastic package containing crystalline substance believed to be Methamphetamine.

“The seized drugs weighing 1,070g, has a market value of RM35,310 and it was taken to the police station for further action,” he said in a statement.

Background checks found that the suspect did not have any prior records and tested negative for drugs.

He added that the suspect is being remanded for six days to facilitate investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for trafficking drugs.

If convicted, the man may face the mandatory death penalty.
