KUCHING: Unlicensed moneylenders or Ah Long are misusing the photos of personalities to promote their illegal business.

The photos of four personalities of a local TV broadcasting company were allegedly misused in an advertisement offering loans on social media recently.

The incident has raised concern regarding the unauthorised usage of these photos with one of the news presenters taking action.

When contacted last night (June 19), the newscaster said she came across her photos and that of her colleagues on Facebook being used by an unlicensed moneylending institution in an advertisement.

Outraged by their action, she and her colleagues promptly lodged a police report at the Sungai Maong police station around 10.30 am.

“Using our photos without our permission has not only tarnished our reputation but it also reflects negatively on the reputable state-owned broadcasting company which we are associated with.

“It also causes confusion among the public,” she said.

She advised the public to exercise caution and remain vigilant, warning them against easily falling prey to deceptive advertisements.
