BETONG: Continuous downpour has caused a longhouse, several villages and roads in Betong and Debak to be inundated with water.

Civil Defence Force (APM) Betong officer 2nd Lt Desem Samuel said the 17-door Rh Buloh Antu in Betong was inundated with water around 6.30am on Monday (Jan 30).

The road leading to the longhouse, inhabited by 53 residents, was cut off after it was submerged in six feet of water (above the bridge).

“It has been raining heavily since Sunday evening (Jan 29), in addition to water overflowing from the upper reaches of Sungai Layar.

“Water also affected the kitchen and back areas of the longhouse,” he said.

Jalan Nanga Padeh and the exit route to Jalan Pan Borneo, which passes through Nanga Padeh, Nanga Bran, Pedanum and Graji areas, were cut off by floodwaters.

“These roads are impassable to vehicles and road users must use an alternative route.”

Meanwhile in Debak, 2nd Lt Desem said floodwaters affected two villages, namely Kampung Bungey Hulu and Kampung Lalang Hilir.
