BA’KELALAN: The Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) through units operating under the formation of the First Infantry Division of Malaysia (1st Division) successfully intercepted an attempt to smuggle sugar and diesel worth RM 1,422.75 here, yesterday (Mar 29).

MAF said at 9.45am, a team of soldiers conducting patrols in Kg Punang Kelalan discovered suspicious canvas packages approximately 900 metres from the Indonesian border.

“The operation under Sector Op Jagakawan confirmed that there were 35 cartons of sugar totaling 420 kilograms and 3 barrels of diesel oil amounting to 105 litres. The total value of the seized items is estimated at RM 1,422.75.

“A police report has been filed at the Ba’kelalan police station, and all seized goods will be handed over to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDN) Lawas on April 3,” it said.

MAF also reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing border control along the Malaysia-Indonesia border, safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty against illegal immigrant intrusion, smuggling activities and cross-border crimes.
