SARATOK: Police arrested a 28-year-old man over two fire cases that happened outside two separate banks here last Friday (Mar 12).

District police chief DSP Mordani Tanin said the incidents happened early Friday morning at Jalan Orang Kaya Temenggung Tanduk and Taman Fuyuan.

Firefighters who rushed to scene, managed to extinguish the flames and the police were alerted of the incidents.

Investigations revealed that the suspect had set fire on the banks’ closed-circuit televisions (CCTV) cameras to remove proof that he withdrew money from the automatic teller machine (ATM) using his neighbour’s card that he had stolen.

“Based on a report lodged by the neighbour, the suspect had requested assistance to help find his pet cat on the longhouse’s ceiling on Mar 9.

“While the neighbour was helping him to look for the cat, the suspect allegedly took his (neighbour’s) ATM card and the pin number from his wallet,” Mordani said.

The neighbour lodged a police report after realising that his ATM card was missing.
