Man beaten up, slashed with knife over debt

PADAWAN: A local man who allegedly refused to pay off a RM500 debt was attacked by three men with a machete and a hammer last night (Feb 14).

The 8.30pm at a house in RPR Jalan Arang involving the 35-year-old victim left him with head and hand injuries.

Padawan police chief Supt Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the victim woke up to find three men, one of whom was armed with a machete, in the living room.

He said the armed suspect then swung a sharp object at the victim, causing injuries to his right hand.

“At the same time, another suspect hit the victim on the head with a hammer. All of the suspects then left the house without saying a word.

“The injured victim was immediately rushed to Sarawak General Hospital for immediate treatment by his three housemates,” he said.

Abang Zainal said the victim sustained injuries to the right side of his head, right palm, ring finger and middle finger.

The cause of the incident was due to a RM500 debt that the victim had with the suspect known as ‘Ah Bie’.

The suspect became furious as the victim was said to have refused to settle the debt.

A team from the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) has been set up to track down and arrest the suspects.

The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons.
