Man fined RM500 for MyKad absence

KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here today (Apr 5) fined a man RM500 or two weeks in prison for failing to produce his identification card upon request by the authorities.

Chen Boon Foong, 47, pleaded guilt to a charge under Rule 25(1)(n) of the National Registration Regulations 1990, before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan.

The offense occurred while he was detained at a coffee shop in Siburan around 6.30 pm on March 5, 2019.

According to the case details, on February 20, 2019, at 2.56 am, a woman was resting in her room in Kampung Masaan when she was alerted by her dog’s barking outside.

Approaching her house’s door to investigate, she witnessed a man starting her car and driving away. She immediately shouted for help and contacted the police.

On March 5, 2019, around 6.30 pm, the accused was arrested at a coffee shop in Siburan as part of the investigation into the car theft reported by the woman.

The car was taken away by an acquaintance of the accused.

The investigation revealed that the accused did not present any identification documents to the authorities upon request. The case was prosecuted by Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang, while the accused did not have legal representation.
