Man found drowned

SARIKEI: A man was found drowned after he was reported to have fallen into the river from a barge at Kampung Seberang, Jalan Langsat on Monday (Sept 7).

According to the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre, an emergency call pertaining to the incident was received around 10am and a team of firefighters from Sarikei fire station were deployed to the scene.

Sarikei fire chief Mahmudin Narudin stated that based on information from the witness, the victim was standing on a barge before suddenly falling into the river.

The witness tried to search for the victim but to no avail, which led the person to contact the authorities.

When the team arrived, they started their search.

“Around 11.10am, the victim identified as Sindi Datu, 42, was found not far from the scene of the incident and was pronounced dead by paramedics on scene,” he said in a statement.

The body was then handed over to the police and sent to Sarikei hospital for further action.
