Man jailed 5 months for house break-in

KUCHING: An unemployed male was today sentenced to five months in prison by the Magistrate’s Court here for breaking into a 29-year-old woman’s house with intent to steal in early March.

The accused, Fu Ten Foo, 48, from Tapah, pleaded guilty to one charge under Section 457 of the Penal Code read before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali.

According to the charge, he committed the act in an unnumbered house in Kampung Sion, Batu 22, Jalan Kuching-Serian, at around 10:15 am on March 2 of last year.

The offence carries a penalty of imprisonment for up to five years and may be subjected to a fine, or imprisonment for up to 14 years, and for any subsequent offence, may be fined or caning.

According to the facts of the case, the victim’s father received a phone call from his daughter’s neighbour stating that an unknown man had entered the victim’s house.

At the time, the victim’s family was not at home, as they had returned to the father’s house.

With the help of the villagers, the accused was successfully apprehended and taken to the police station for further action.

Investigations revealed that the accused had broken into the victim’s house and stolen cash amounting to RM18, the victim’s and her children’s identity documents, and a bank card.

The prosecuting officer, Inspector Mohd Adzmei Ahmad, requested that the accused be sentenced appropriately as a lesson to him.
