Man jailed for threatening sister with knife

KUCHING: A local man was sentenced to three months in prison by the Magistrate’s Court here today (Mar 26) for threatening to kill his sister with a knife during a verbal altercation.

Chai Pei Hua, 30, pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 506 of the Penal Code before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi.

The charge sheet stated that he committed the offense at a house in Stutong around 1.30 pm on February 9.

The case details revealed that during the incident, a verbal altercation broke out between the complainant and the accused at their mother’s house.

The accused then brandished a knife and advanced towards the complainant but was intercepted by their mother. He also threatened to damage the complainant’s car, to kill her and to assault her husband.

Previously, the accused had often become irate and damaged household items.

Concerned for her safety, the complainant reported the incident to the police, resulting in the accused’s arrest on the same day.

It was reported that the accused justified his actions by claiming he was angered when the complainant failed to comply with his demand to open the car hood after asking her to remove items from the vehicle.

Prosecuting Officer Inspector Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin led the case’s prosecution, while the accused was unrepresented.
