Man nabbed for transporting diesel drums illegally

KPDN Bintulu branch seizes a pick-up truck transporting two drums of subsidised diesel without valid permission.

BINTULU: The Domestic Trade and Costs of Living Ministry (KPDN) here managed to seize 400 litres of subsidised diesel from a pick-up truck suspected to be involved in a misappropriation activity in Tanjung Kidurong.

KPDN Bintulu office branch chief Al Redzamani Abdul Razak said the seizure was made after a patrol team detained the suspicious vehicle at a petrol station at around 8.30 pm on Friday (Oct 6).

“Inspections found that the vehicle was transporting two drums containing 400 litres of diesel on the back of the vehicle.

“The total seizure value including the vehicle is estimated to be around RM91,060.

“The driver was detained as he failed to produce any valid documents permits from the ministry to store diesel,” he said.

Al Redzamani said the case is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961 and the Control of Supplies Regulations 1974, which carries a prison sentence or a fine or both, upon conviction.

On another note, the KPDN Bintulu branch has received a lot of complaints regarding diesel oil syndicates, in addition to lack of diesel fuel.

He added that they have taken initiatives and proactive actions by conducting daily monitoring and continuous inspections of all petrol stations through ‘Ops Tiris’.

“Through this, they will ensure that all petrol station operators are in compliance so that there are no misappropriation and leakages involving controlled goods.

“Petrol stations found to be in collusion with diesel embezzlement syndicates will be dealt with sternly and they may face license suspension or cancellation,” he said.
