SIBU: The marine police here seized a tanker with 11,000 litres of diesel during an operation codenamed ‘Op Taring Kontraban’ on yesterday.

Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili, in a statement yesterday, said a 30-year-old man was also arrested for failing to produce documents or permits from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDNHEP) for the possession of the controlled goods.

“The suspect was arrested in a warehouse at Jalan Kong Yit Khim at around 5.30 pm.

“Upon investigation, the police seized 11,000 litres of diesel stored inside several white tanks with a 1,000-litre capacity.

Zulkipli said that the total seized items were estimated to be worth RM50,000.

“The seized items were brought and handed over to KPDNHEP Sibu for further action,” he said.

Zulkipli noted that the case is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.

Under the Control of Supplies Act 1961, an individual is liable to face a fine of up to RM1 million or a jail sentence for a term of up to three years or both, while companies or organisations can be fined up to RM3 million, upon conviction.
