KUCHING: An elderly male pedestrian died on the spot after he was run over by a van.
This unfortunate incident occurred at Jalan Bintawa here on Saturday morning (Oct 3).
Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu told that a public complaint was received around 6.50am on the accident.
Following the complaint, a police team was deployed to the scene.
“Investigations revealed that the van driver was heading to Bintawa Market and knocked down a pedestrian (victim) who was crossing the road.
“The victim identified as Lai Chung Khui, 77, was pronounced dead at the scene by Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) paramedics present,” he said in a statement.
Alexson noted that there were no witnesses at the scene.
The body was sent to SGH forensic unit for further actions.
The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
