KUCHING: A local man was fined RM2,000 or sentenced to three months in jail by the Magistrate’s Court yesterday for threatening to kill his own brother after being denied money.

Kenneth Vinton Langang, 33, immediately pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 506 of the Penal Code, as read by Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan.

If proven guilty, he could face imprisonment of up to seven years, a fine, or both.

The incident took place at the residence of the 38-year-old victim in Taman Malihah, Matang, at around 5.30 pm on July 18.

The case facts state that Kenneth went to his brother’s house to ask for money, but the victim refused, fearing it would be used for alcohol or drugs.

Enraged by the denial, Kenneth brandished a meat cleaver and threatened to harm his brother.

Worried for his safety, the victim promptly filed a police report, leading to the arrest of Kenneth on 20th July.
