MIRI: A driver escaped unharmed after the car he was driving skidded off the road and turned turtle nearby Sungai Raan Bridge in Bakam along the Miri coastal road this morning.

During the incident, believed to have occurred around 11am, the man was driving alone towards Batu Niah from Miri.

New Sarawak Tribune managed to speak to one Rahmah, a resident of a house near to the scene, later today.

According to her, she and her family were stunned upon hearing a loud bang prior to seeing a vehicle landing on its roof nearby the bridge in the morning.  It happened at a site just next to their house.

“We found out that the four-wheel drive (4WD) was laden with agriculture fertilizers and pesticides,” she said.

Prior to the incident, the man was on his way to Batu Niah from the city centre, transporting some agriculture pesticides and fertilizers to an oil palm plantation.

Several villagers nearby immediately rushed to the scene soon after the incident to help extricate the driver from the vehicle by smashing the windows. They managed to remove him and noted he was not injured in the incident.
