SARATOK: Villagers and road users took advantage of a road accident involving a lorry carrying raw food items near Bukit Perabun, Jalan Roban, by taking away spilled items such as fish, chicken and beef yesterday.

Saratok district police chief DSP Mordani Tanin said when police arrived at the scene, they saw many road users had got out from their vehicles at the scene of the accident.

It was reported earlier that two lorries carrying raw food items and construction materials were involved in a collision around 9am.

As a result of the accident, a lorry carrying raw food items weighing as much as 17 tonnes crashed into the side of the road, scattering many of the items it carried on the ground.

Witnesses took advantage of the situation to grab whatever they could.

Mordani said three traffic police officers and two multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) officers later arrived to control the situation at the scene.

“When my officers arrived, they advised about 50 people in the area to disperse and not take the food.

“We interviewed the lorry owner and was told that all food items were insured. The items are already damaged and cannot be sold to consumers anymore,” he said in a statement.
