KUCHING: Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing has concurred with Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin’s recent statement on the Covid-19’s status.

He stated that 80 per cent herd immunity, which Sarawak hoped to achieve by September this year, would render vaccinated people as relatively protected from the severe impact of the virus.

“Thus, the evolution of Covid-19—from pandemic to endemic—requires, as Khairy said, new approaches to restore normalcy to our lives.

“Sections of the economy will open up bit by bit, and government offices need to function as usual, once staff are fully vaccinated.

“However, strict standard operating procedures still need to be adhered to and big social gatherings, including seminars, are not allowed!”

Masing further noted that Khairy acknowledged the virus was here to stay and Malaysians needed to learn to live with it.

“I am confident that with the support of the Cabinet, colleagues, and citizens, our Health Minister and the Ministry of Health will overcome Covid-19.”
