KUCHING: Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr James Masing Jemut said the departure of Sri Aman Member of Parliament Datuk Masir Kudat from Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) was one of the pros and cons of democracy depending on how a person perceives it.

Masing, who is PRS president, said people are free to associate with others according to their whims and fancies.

“All political parties are subject to this freedom of movement! They are free to jump from one political party to the next,” he said.

Looking back, he said that during his time as leader of PRS he had helped many of his “boys” to get to their respective positions of importance.

“I have also advised them on what needed to be done as leaders,” he said.

The way he looked at such a situation, he reckoned that one thing of paramount importance is gratitude.

“Gratitude to the institution or person that has helped you!” he said.

Appealing to conscience, he said that as human beings, people in general have it and it is the measure of who they are.

“I can tell them the meaning of service to the community, but I can’t guide them to be grateful,” he said.

Masir, today, confirmed his move into Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB), formerly known as United People’s Party (UPP).

Other who went before him were former Marudi assemblymen and junior minister Datuk Sylvester Entri Muran, former Lubok Antu Member of Parliament Datuk William Nyallau Badak, and former Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Joseph Entulu Belaun.
