KUCHING: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng exchanged ideas with visiting Romanian Ambassador Nineta Barbulescu on areas of mutual benefit here recently.

Their discussions included the possibility of establishing friendship cities between Kuching South and the cities in Romania.

“The main discussion focused on the ability to share Sarawak and Romania’s cultures which can contribute to boosting both cities’ tourism and business aspects.

“Furthermore, we discussed the potential of exchanging knowledge in terms of the Smart City Concept which can definitely benefit both Kuching South and cities in Romania,” he said in a social media post on Tuesday (March 15).

Wee noted that the possibility to learn more about the smart city concept is driven by the fact that both cities are currently practicing the concept, adding that the possible future development in digital world was also shared.

“I also briefed Her Excellency on the recent recognition by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) bestowed on Kuching city as City of Gastronomy and how the council as well as associations have worked together to bid for the title.
