KUCHING: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) launched the second sustainable development goals (SDG) campaign, with the theme zero hunger.

MBKS mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said this is the second of such campaign following the first one launched last month.

He said the council is continuously engaging with the community, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and the private sector to promote awareness of the 17 SDGs.

Initiated by the council, the latest campaign is organised by JCI Kuching and sponsored by Yast Group.

“It’s a challenge posed to JCI Kuching. Once they have completed all 17 (installation of SDG signboards), I hope that they will continue the programme by engaging with schools for further awareness campaigns.

“The JCI members have been pushing for this cause. Therefore, we will try to get the support from the private sector which is more than willing to help support this cause to make the world more sustainable and also environmentally-friendly,” he told reporters after the launching of the second SDG at a bus stop near Jalan Padungan here, today.

The second SDG seeks sustainable solutions to end hunger in all its forms by 2030 and to achieve food security.

Meanwhile, JCI immediate past president from Venezuela Argenis Angulo commended the efforts of JCI Kuching in promoting SDG among the Kuching citizens.

“We unite all sectors to create solutions and positive changes. What the young leaders of JCI are doing is investing their time and energy, with the support of their leaders and resources to build and create this opportunity to give back to the community.

“Therefore, what we are called to do is to retribute such efforts to continuously improve the lifestyle of Kuching citizens,” said Angulo.

Meanwhile, Yast Group chairlady Esther Law said the group contributed RM3,500 to the project and pledged to support JCI Kuching to ensure the movement remains as a role model for the community.
