KUCHING: The state village expansion scheme (SPK) will be introduced in Samarahan to meet the demand for affordable housing.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the scheme would be implemented in Tambirat, Gedong, Simunjan, Sadong Jaya and Sebuyau.

“This scheme will provide residential lots that are more comfortable, planned and equipped with various basic facilities such as roads, drainage system, water supply and electricity supply,” he said in his speech during the launch of the Integrated Regional Samarahan Development Agency (IRSDA) here today.

Abang Johari explained that to provide lots that were upgraded with drains and utility supplies, the cost was estimated to be about RM150,000. This would be fully borne by the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government.

“Meanwhile, for house construction, the sale price of the house is between RM90,000 and RM120,000 per unit which will be announced later, not including the Land and Survey Department’s land premium of RM2,500 per lot.

“In fact, the Sarawak government will also channel deposit assistance of 10 per cent or a maximum of RM10,000 through Mutiara Mortgage and Credit Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of the Sarawak Housing Development Corporation (HDC),” he said.

This effort by GPS, he said, was a way to help the people have their own assets worth almost RM300,000 and half of the cost would be borne by the Sarawak government.

Meanwhile, he said as Sarawak Premier, he would build another road to connect Samarahan to Sebuyau.

“I want to build a dual carriageway road to Sebuyau from Samarahan, a project under the state government.

“This plan will also include the construction of a bridge that we will add following the upgrading of the road from two lanes to four two-way lanes (dual carriageway).

“When we implement and build communication roads in this area, I believe Sarawak, especially Samarahan, will experience   development spillover,” he said.
