Men jailed 6 months for cable theft

KUCHING: Two local men were sentenced to six months in prison each yesterday by the Magistrate’s Court here for stealing Telekom Malaysia Berhad cables at Jalan Taman Lee Ling last July.

Abang Daniel Irfan Abang Khalid, 27, and Mohamad Nur Ezat Aizun Ismail, 29, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali.

The charge against them stated that they committed the crime together at Jalan Taman Lee Ling around 5.45 am on July 7.

As a result, both of them were charged under Section 379 of the Penal Code, along with Section 34 of the same Code.

According to the facts of the case, police officers and auxiliary police from Telekom Malaysia, noticed two men riding motorcycles separately in a suspicious manner around the Taman Lee Ling area.

After observing them for about ten minutes, the police then apprehended both men along with the equipment and the cut cable.

The investigation confirmed that both men had stolen and cut cables that belonged to Telekom Malaysia.

Public Prosecutor Inspector Mohd Adzmei Ahmad handled the prosecution, while the accused were not represented by lawyers.
