KUCHING: Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah supports the idea of the state level Chinese New Year open house to be held annually.

The state level Chinese New Year open house was held for the first time in Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), and Abdul Karim was full of praise for the event, pointing out that the open house would foster closer relationships among races in Sarawak.

“This event could bring the different races together, those that are present here today are not just the Chinese community but also those from other races that enliven the celebration this year,” he told reporters after attending the State Level Chinese New Year (CNY) Open House at BCCK today.

Abdul Karim who is Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister said he supports the idea of organising the state level open house similar to Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Gawai Dayak.

“For me, I support it because I see the benefits of it. Before this, it was held at a party and association level, therefore it is not wrong if it held every year like Hari Raya and Gawai.

“InshaAllah events such as this would be included in next year’s state calendar if it is conducted as a yearly event,” he said.
