KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Public Works (MPW) always monitors the performance of rescue contractors (Kontraktor Penyiap) through their compliance with established criteria other than being free from any sick project.

Its Minister Baru Bian said the rescue contractors should also be free from disciplinary action and the recognition certificate given to them would be withdrawn immediately if they were found to have violated the stipulated regulations.

“It is the obligation of all rescue contractors to continue to adhere to the stipulated criteria and maintain an excellent performance.

“The recognition as the Rescue Contractors for MPW is a big trust to all the recipients of the certificate today,” he said in a ceremony to hand over rescue contractor’s certificate to 96 rescue contractors, yesterday.

The event was the second in the series for rescue contractors who passed three screening stages. The first in the series was held on March 27 last year where 94 rescue contractors were recognised.

Baru, who is also Selangau Member of Parliament, said the government had improved on the existing procedure for the appointments of rescue contractors by abolishing the procurement method from limited tender to open tender.

He said the method was implemented among rescue contractors who had been approved and had a certificate from the ministry and was applicable for all projects implemented by the government.

In the meantime, when met by reporters, Baru said there were 1,000 sick projects, or seven per cent of the total nationwide, namely, projects which had been delayed in excess of 60 days.  – Bernama
