KUCHING: Surplus supplies of chicken in Sarawak may be exported to the peninsula to address a shortage there.

In saying this, Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs secretary-general Datuk Azman Mohd Yusof said this is in line with the spirit of the Malaysian Family.

“However, the management of supply is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, not this ministry,” he clarified.

He said this when met by the reporters during an  inspection at Medan Pasar Satok today.

He noted that the traders in Sarawak have thus far said there was no shortage of chicken supply in the State.

Nevertheless, Azman urged consumers to report any unreasonable price increase or supply restriction directly to the ministry using the complaint channels provided such as WhatsApp, email and mobile apps.

He also suggested that consumers download the Price Catcher application developed by the ministry to help consumers search for affordable prices based on their locality.
