KUCHING: The Ministry of Plantations and Commodities will assess how many farmers were impacted by the floods, allowing for the proper distribution of relief.

The National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA), said its minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, is in charge of delivering disaster aid, including for floods.

According to him, the Prime Minister’s Department oversees NADMA, and the support that has been provided thus far has primarily been for agriculture, relating to disasters or floods.

“Currently, there is no special programme in place to assist farmers; however, the government will analyse this matter,” he pointed out.

Fadillah, who is the Deputy Prime Minister, said this to reporters after attending the relocation ceremony of the new Ikhwanul Islam Taman Sukma Mosque here last night (March 4).

For the record, after receiving complete information from the state and district disaster management committees, the federal government would distribute RM 1,000 in cash assistance (Bantuan Wang Ihsan) to every household affected by floods and other Northeast Monsoon-related disasters.

Earlier, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah, Sarawak Affairs, and Special Functions) Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali assured that the assistance would be distributed through NADMA no later than a week after the disaster.

“There won’t be any delays from NADMA. The Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also the chairman of the Central Disaster Management Committee, have also made their commitment to provide immediate relief,” he said.
