KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD) is meeting with TikTok’s parent company regarding the alleged content restriction involving the Palestine-Israel conflict on the platform this Thursday.

Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the meeting will be held between the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the company.

“TikTok has started to get ‘cuak’ (nervous) because we will be meeting with their parent company,” he said after attending the Malaysia Stands with Palestine Rally at Axiata Arena, here last night.

Fahmi said this when asked about the government’s actions regarding claims from social media users that the content they created containing words like ‘Hamas’ and several other words were automatically taken down by the social media company.

On the rally, he said the impressive turnout of over 15,000 people was a sign of the strong support of the Malaysian people for the Palestinians.

“I hope this good turnout will serve as a trigger and inspire all Malaysians,” he said.

Fahmi also reminded those who wish to help the Palestinians to contribute to recognised agencies or organisations to avoid scammers or irresponsible parties taking advantage of the situation. — BERNAMA
