KUCHING: The proposed rail line in Sarawak will complete the transportation system for the state, said Datuk Peter Minos.

The political observer said Sarawak needs the best roads, rail line and airline to progress.

He said this is the modern reality that has to be faced as can be evidently seen in Peninsular Malaysia.

“The federal minister of transport said that there is a plan for a rail line for Sarawak, presumably running from Kuching to Lawas. Hopefully there will be such a rail one day, the sooner the better.

“We already have the Pan Borneo Highway and the state’s own airline is coming, so the proposed rail line will complete Sarawak’s transportation system,” he said today.

In the last 30 years, Minos pointed out, China had developed tremendously in all aspects because the country spent billions on its internal transportation and communication.

He said China has been smart on this and did the right thing, adding that this should be emulated here.

“The burden of undertaking this would be the cost. Sarawak can do it gradually, of course we cannot do it in one go and in a short time.

“We have made a start and from there we move on, steadily and when we have the money,” he said.

Minos said good and efficient internal transportation and communication are highly desirable as it makes all things better with businesses, tourism and quality of life being enhanced.

“Good internal transportation and communication are necessary and essential for social and economic development,” he added.
