MIRI: Miri City Council (MCC) yesterday announced precautionary measures to curb the spread of Covid-19.

Its mayor Adam Yii said this was in line with the Sarawak government’s directive announced earlier by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“Firstly, public places like Miri Handicraft Centre, Taman Awam water features, public libraries etc will be closed for the next two weeks.

“Secondly, the organising of the Ramadan market will be put on hold, depending on the situation review nearer Ramadan time.

“Apart from that, all activities and events to be held in Miri city under the Miri City Events Calendar will all be cancelled or postponed to a later date, including Miri City Day 15th Anniversary Celebration on May 29,” he said.

He further mentioned that among others that would be postponed to a later date are the April’s Meet the People session, the proposed study trip for the City Infrastructure Standing Committee and the Rating and Valuation Committee in April, as well as the proposed community engagement trip to Long Lellang on March 30.

Yii added, “Public entering MCC buildings and UTC building will be registered with their name, IC number, handphone contact, and body temperature recorded.

“Hand sanitiser will be provided for them to sanitise their hands before entry and on exit.”

He assured that MCC would strictly follow the guidelines given by the Sarawak government to combat Covid-19 as well as encourage the Miri community to comply.
