Miri incumbent buys 2 nomination forms

MIRI: The incumbent MP for Miri, Dr Michael Teo Yu Keng, was among the first local aspiring candidates to purchase nomination forms for the 15th General Election.

Nomination is fixed for Nov 5 while polling is on Nov 19.

The Sabah and Sarawak Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) vice president was seen at the Election Commission (EC) on the 8th floor of the Miri City Council building in Marina on Tuesday (Oct 25) around 3pm.

He purchased two nomination forms.

It is understood that the EC starting selling the nomination forms from Tuesday.

Dr Teo has served as MP since 2013.

Miri PKR members have upped the ante for the election, and they are said to be in high spirits.

Dr Teo said since there are 40 voting centres and 237 ballot boxes in Miri constituency this time around, it is necessary to mobilise more volunteers as polling, counting and barung agents. He appealed for more people to join as election agents.

A polling agent ensures the person who is voting is in the electoral name list; a counting agent ensures the votes are counted correctly; and a barung agent verifies the identity of the person who is coming to vote.

Meanwhile, for postal voting, Malaysians residing overseas may apply online by logging into their SPR account and clicking on ‘Permohonan Undi Pos’.

It’s important to ensure that their mailing addresses are correct as their ballots will be posted to the addresses provided.

Applications for postal voters close on Oct 23.

For domestic postal voters, applications from election staff/EC officers, police, armed forces personnel, and media will close on Nov 2.
