Miri to host King’s birthday do

MIRI: A high tea reception will highlight the state-level celebration of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s official birthday to be held at Pullman Hotel Miri on June 5.

The celebration will feature the diverse cultural heritage of Sarawak through special performances showcasing various traditional dances and musical rhythms, in addition to entertaining performances by local artists.

A rehearsal session was held from 9 am to 12 pm today to ensure a seamless execution of the upcoming programme.

Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil and Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring) Datuk Gerawat Gala were present to oversee the final preparations.

Also present were the Deputy State Secretary (Operation) Datuk Hii Chang Kee and the Ceremonies and Event Management Unit (UPPANS) director Datuk Mohamad Junaidi Mohidin.

Meanwhile, this year’s celebration will kick off with a thanksgiving ceremony to be held at Masjid At-Taqwa, Miri today (June 4).

Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib, are expected to grace this year’s celebration.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, and his wife Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang are also expected to attend the celebration.
