MIRI: The immigration office at Miri Urban Transformation Center (UTC) has received funding approval to repair its faulty air conditioning.

Miri MP Chiew Choon Man said this on Thursday (Feb 2), during a visit to the establishment, that a representative from the Ministry of Finance (MoF) had come to conduct an inspection at UTC Miri and that the federal government had approved the provision to replace the damaged air conditioner.

“Priority will be given to the immigration office and it is expected that the new air conditioning will be ready to be installed this month.

“We are aware and have repeatedly approached the issue that is regularly expressed by the public regarding congestion at the immigration office located in UTC Miri.

“Also frequently raised is the issue of air conditioning damage, which causes the public to perform errands and wait in uncomfortable conditions,” Chiew added.

Furthermore, he stated that they had received information from the immigration office that an additional passport-making machine had been supplied to the Miri immigration office and is being installed.

Aside from that, he noted, seven more members would be stationed in the UTC Miri immigration office. It is hoped that this endeavour will help to speed up the passport processing process while also meeting local demands.
