Earth Hour will be held from 8.30pm to 9.30pm this Saturday.

MIRI: Miri City Council (MCC) is encouraging residents to turn off non-essential lights from 8.30pm to 9.30pm in conjunction with ‘Earth Hour’ this Saturday (March 27).

Mayor Adam Yii said participation was important as a symbol of commitment to the Earth.

“I’m inviting individuals, communities and businesses to participate in this important climate action event.

“This is an annual event held worldwide. The theme this year is ‘Climate Change To Save The World’,” he said on Thursday (March 25).

Earth Hour aims to increase awareness and spark global conversations on protecting nature, not only to combat the climate crisis but to ensure our own health, happiness, prosperity and even survival.

Earth Hour goes far beyond the symbolic action of switching off – it has become a catalyst for positive environmental impact, driving major legislative changes by harnessing the power of the people and collective action.

“In supporting this event, MCC via the Green Community and Environment Development Committee welcomes everyone to take part and help amplify our mission to unite the people to protect our planet,” Yii added.
