KUCHING: The finalists of Miss International Sarawak (MIS) 2023 were granted a valuable opportunity to explore the Juma’ani Pavilion on Tuesday (July 25), providing them with exposure to the significance of the esteemed venue and the production of heritage products.

Centexs Commercial general manager Mohamad Shahren Yusri highlighted that the visit aimed to familiarise the finalists with the art of producing traditional textiles like songket and keringkam.

“The Juma’ani Pavilion takes pride in developing ready-to-wear products such as bags and shoes, showcasing these traditional textiles.

“The finalists witnessed a demonstration of songket weaving and gained insights into the intricate process of keringkam production during the visit.”

Shahren emphasised the importance of this collaboration, as the MIS 2023 finalists can serve as valuable ambassadors for the products crafted at the Juma’ani Pavilion.

“Not only will they represent Centexs Commercial but also the Sarawak government, promoting these culturally rich products on an international stage.”

The finalists were also given the opportunity to explore the production room of the sewing department, where they witnessed the creation of ready-to-wear garments like baju kurung and modern contemporary clothes, destined for markets beyond the region.

During the photo shoot sessions, the finalists will style Centexs Commercial products, showcasing the fusion of heritage and modern fashion, adding to the unique cultural representation of Sarawak.

The visit was met with enthusiasm by the 13 MIS 2023 finalists, providing them with a deeper understanding of Sarawak’s rich cultural heritage and its contribution to the region’s fashion industry.

As they prepare for the grand pageant, the visit to the Juma’ani Pavilion undoubtedly enriched the finalists’ appreciation of Sarawak’s cultural heritage and the significance of traditional textiles in shaping the state’s fashion landscape.
