Missing septuagenarian found safe by plantation workers

ROBAN: An elderly man with dementia, who was reported missing after failing to return home since Monday (March 11), has been found safe today.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said that the victim, Lakui Mapan, 78 years old was found around 4.45pm at an oil palm plantation.

The victim was discovered by plantation workers about 1.3km from the search and rescue (SAR) control post.

Rescuers were informed of the finding and rushed to the location to bring Lakui back to his family. He was later taken to Roban Health Clinic for a medical check-up.

On Monday, Lakui left his house at Rh Inggam, Sungai Nyiar around 11.30am, wearing a red shirt and blue shorts.

The SAR team initiated a search and rescue operation at 10.42am the following day after a briefing with the police and the longhouse folks.
