KUCHING: The body of a 14-year-old boy feared drowned at the Kampung Bintangor pontoon jetty was found on the same day he went missing.

A spokesperson from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said a search and rescue (SAR) operation took place at the pontoon jetty along Jalan Datuk Ajibah Abol.

The marine police managed to recover the body of Justin Cornelius at 10.47pm on Friday after the operation was resumed at 9pm.

Initially, the operation was postponed due to limited visibility at 6pm. However, after thorough discussions, the authorities involved agreed to resume the operation shortly after.

The boy’s remains were sent to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) mortuary for further action.

The SAR operation ended at 11pm.

Justin, the youngest and only son among three siblings, went missing while swimming in the Sarawak River with two friends at 5.40pm. Prior to that, they ate at a nearby eatery and were walking by the waterfront before they decided to swim in the river.
