MIRI: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has conducted a successful water bombing operation at Sungai Adong here, extinguishing a massive 5.5 square kilometre area engulfed by peat fire.

MMEA Miri zone director Captain Mohd Shafie Paing said during the water bombing operation, MMEA’s bombardier aircraft dropped a total of 120,000 litres of water.

“We collected the water for bombing operations from Sungai Kuala Baram, located just 10 kilometres away from the peat fire site,” he said.

The CL-415 bombardier aircraft began its operation on March 27, aiding the State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) in extinguishing the peat fire.

Additionally, Bomba’s Mi-17 helicopter was also deployed in the firefighting efforts.
