KUCHING: Adoption of modern technologies is a must for the state’s economy to move forward post Covid-19.

In pointing this out, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said Sarawakians had no choice but to upgrade themselves in terms of technological know-how and the post Covid-19 ways of doing businesses.

“For the next five to 10 years, businesses and organisations cannot avoid adopting modern technologies including artificial intelligence (AI) and data analytics.

“Robotics technology is needed in your business to improve efficiency. Secondly, your data has to be stored and you have to analyse it. Thirdly, you have to make use of your data for you to manage your supply chains and services.”

Abang Johari was officiating at the Sarawak Energy Vendor Awards (Seva) 2020 held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here on Monday (Dec 21).

He pointed out that the adoption of modern technologies approach was in line with the state government’s core approach which was based on environmental sustainability as well as digital economy.

“Only last month, the United Nations came up with its programme on climate change. Now there’s a shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy.

“For Sarawak, we have the resources. The main thing is that we must optimise our resources and adapt to the world needs of renewable energy,” he added.

Touching on the recent agreement between the state government and Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) on gas distribution in the state, Abang Johari said Sarawak now had the right to determine the price of gas and the volume of gas. “For that, I must say that the road is clear to achieving our vision of becoming a developed state with high income economy by the year 2030,” he added.
