Mohd Zaqhwan wins ARRC competition

KUALA LUMPUR: Young national racer, Mohd Zaqhwan Zaidi, 23, scored a dramatic win at the second race of the 1,000cc Asia Superbike category first round of Asia Road Racing Championship which ended at the Sepang International Circuit Sunday.

The Honda Asia-Dream Racing with Showa team racer who started in the third slot was in his element when other racers were struggling with the wet circuit by being ahead from the seventh round before ending the 11 rounds of the race in 27 minutes 20.147 seconds.

Thai racer, Thitipong Warokorn from the Kawasaki Thailand Racing Team, who was fourth at one point, ended the race in second place (27:23.70 seconds), while Japanese racer, Yuki Ito from the Yamaha Racing Team ASEAN occupied third place in 27:27.360 seconds.

‘’The race today was quite difficult because of the different weathers. Part of the circuit was wet and part of it was dry, in addition to my (injured) hand which has not fully recovered.” – Bernama

‘’Initially, I thought the weather would become warmer although the rain had started to fall when the racers were at the starting grid. On the other hand, it became heavier and much of the circuit was quite slippery and I was forced to take risks to overtake the racers,’’ said Mohd Zaqhwan.

Another national  racer,  Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman from the Onexox TKKR SAG Racing Team who won the first race yesterday, was forced to withdraw in the sixth round after his machine developed problems.

In the Supersports 600cc competition, national racer, Kasma Daniel Kasmayuddin from the Hong Leong Yamaha Malaysia team overtook compatriot, Mohd Adam Mohd Norrodin at the final curve to win third place in 21 minutes 59.471 seconds.

Thai racer, Peerapong Boonlert from the Yamaha Thailand Racing Team who won the first race yesterday, maintained his winning streak by recording a time of 21:57.152 seconds at the 10-round race.

Indonesian racer, Andi Farid Izdihar from the Astra Honda Racing Team ended the race in third place in a time of 21:59.471 seconds.  Bernama
