Bukit Begunan Assemblyman Datuk Mong Dagang requested the government to consider a village extension project for Melugu Land Development Scheme. According to him, the Melugu Land Development Scheme was set up in the early 1960s as a rubber planting scheme. He said the settlement comprised about 300 households.

“Over the years the family members multiplied and now there are no less than two or even three family members living in one house thus causing great inconvenience and hardship to the effected families.

“I was told there is no available vacant housing lots to meet the needs of new family members who are staying permanently in the scheme.

“To solve the predicament faced by the scheme participants, I am proposing and at the same time requesting the government to consider implementing a Kampung extension project. The government could alienate nearby land for the project,” he said during a debate on the Supply Bill at the State Legislative Assembly Sitting here on Tuesday.

He added that last September he had a meeting with headmen from the Melugu Land Development Scheme.

“They were all very receptive to the idea and agreeed to give their full cooperation to the relevant government agency to ensure success of the Kampung extension project should it be approved,” he said. Hence, Mong hoped that the relevant ministry would give due consideration to his request.
