SIBU: A mobile phone shop owner died after his four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle went out of control and crashed into a flooded drain along Jalan Ling Kai Cheng here last Saturday (May 29).

Sarawak Traffic Police chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said the fatal crash happened around 8 pm near SMK Bandar Baru when the victim was heading to the town centre.

Firemen from Sungai Merah station were despatched to the scene as the vehicle had crashed into a drain with about four-feet deep of water, and the driver was still inside the vehicle.

A towing truck was called to help pull the vehicle out from the drain so that rescue works could be carried out.

The driver identified as Kevin Law Juen, 26, was unconscious when he was rescued by firemen.

He was later pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, said Naga.

The victim’s body was brought to Sibu Hospital for further action.
