KUALA LUMPUR: Professional Game Match Officials Limited ( PGMOL) believes the establishment of Professional Match Officials Malaysia (PMOM) would give a positive impact to the quality of refereeing besides raising the standard of Malaysian football to greater heights.

PGMOL head of national list performance, Richard Beeby praised the effort undertaken by the Malaysian Football League to set up PMOM which would certainly raise the standard of Malaysian football.

He said the joint move by MFL and Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) to turn Malaysian referees into the full-time professionals is in line with the current international football development.

“By bringing in professional referees, it would certainly raise match credibility since the credibility of a professional referee plays an import role in a match.

“We should encourage the existence of professional referees which is a key element to raise the standard of Malaysian football,” Richard said in a statement issued by MFL, today.

Representatives from MFL and FAM held a meeting with Richard in London on Monday to get the advice of the English Premier League professional referees body to setup PMOM.
